***URGENT NOTICE***
last minute add--terrible bill for 04.01
i apologize for the late notice but i just received word that a new bill, not on the calendar when i put together my “bills to watch” email on friday, was added to the house judiciary schedule for tomorrow, tuesday 04.01.2025, upon adjournment. i would put this off as an april fools’ day joke but it is all too serious. here’s the link and a little info:
HB25-1312, Legal Protections for Transgender Individuals: this is the second of two bills that will be heard in judiciary tomorrow. if passed this would codify a whole onslaught of bad provisions…would prioritize parents who affirm a child’s gender identity in custody battles, would leave no ability to remove a child from a parent allowing “gender affirming” care, would force schools that adopt a name-change policy to allow name changes for any reason and any dress code to have gender variation options, would require all public entities to have a place to list “chosen name” in addition to legal name and use the chosen name wherever possible (i.e. not legally required to use the legal name), and, finally but certainly just as bad, would put “dead naming” and “misgendering” into the colorado anti-discrimination act. the fiscal note is 13 pages long…i’m not even through it yet. this forced speech and forced action measure has a $14 million dollar price tag that should be enough to kill this bill in a tough fiscal year but with all the blue hair that’s currently on fire, you can almost guarantee an extreme measure like this will pass. this is NOT one we can sit out for and hope for the best. WE MUST ASSEMBLE EVERYONE TO TESTIFY AGAINST THIS BILL IF WE WANT ANY CHANCE OF IT NOT BECOMING LAW! please share widely!!
if you can be in person, that’s wonderful. if you need to be online, great…that’s how i will likely have to engage tomorrow, though, if it goes late enough, i might be able to rush down after my morning/early afternoon commitment finishes. if you can’t engage in the live hearing, submit written testimony by 10am to ensure your position is noted. it is fairly impossible to know when the judiciary committee will begin because that depends on how long house floor work goes before they adjourn. they could motion to lay over the balance of the calendar at any point to go to committees…OR they could be on the floor for a long time and push committees until late afternoon or early evening. both scenarios happen on a regular basis. that said, i will be keeping an eye on the house floor progress on the active display board website when they begin at 9am and will be listening to the house audio once i’m done teaching rollerskating around noon.
in the same vein, i forgot to include a link to a conference next sunday afternoon from 2:30pm-5:30pm on safeguarding children from gender transition. the colorado parent action network is hosting this event and the wonderfully sane and common sense psychiatrist dr. miriam grossman will be one of the speakers. go here to register and i hope to see you there and in the HB25-1312 hearing tomorrow.

As per our 2.11.25 Substack, January 28th was our last public meeting until further notice— however, moving forward, we will continue to host hands-on Private Members Only meetings on a quarterly basis, focusing on self-sufficiency and preparedness, and we will continue to send out newsletters at least once per month.
If things get crazy again, and we need to re-convene for education and support, then we will let you know through the newsletter, text and social media (Facebook, Signal, Telegram). Meanwhile, please continue to build your support network. Also, continue to use our website as a resource, which includes valuable information to help you find and connect like-minded others who live in your area. Also, continue to stay active in your local politics - see link below for newsletters related to the current Legislative Session - track the bills being heard and passed, write your legislators, testify by Zoom or in-person. We must not grow complacent and think that someone else will fix things for us. We must remain vigilant and active!
